The game was a back and forth affair but The Girls and James flexed their might in the second half and stormed to a victory. Scores are now 8 to 6 in Block 1 favouring The Girls and James.

I think I made it too easy as 4 of you got 100% and 2 got 41/42. Congrats go out to Team Evens (who for some reason now have named themselves The Odds) as Dana and Van both got 100% (Tony and Tarneer did too but they already earned points). Dana will earn the point as I marked hers first and this brings the scores to 7 to 5 in favour of Team Odds (who are now known as The Evens)

Another reminder that your Rube Goldberg Machine videos are due on Monday! I will show them to the rest of the science teachers and ask which they think is the best and that will earn another point for their team.

- Remember the videos for your Rube Goldberg machines will be due on Monday Nov. 16th. I will then poll the Science department teachers and we will decide which machine we felt was the best and whichever gets that vote their side will get another point.

Ok so a few updates to the Arocena Cup scores.

Block 1: Team Odds (Now named The Girls & James) takes a 5 to 3 lead as Shaylene scored the highest on the chapter 1 test. Congrats Odds!

Block 2: The teams are tied at 1 point each as David scored the highest on the Chapter 1 test and Arlan scored the highest on the Chapter 3 test.

Block 3: Team Tomahawk takes a 4 to 2 lead as Natalya scored the highest on the chapter 1 test. Congrats Team Tomahawk!

Arocena Cup Champions for Semester 2

The champions are as follows

Block 1:
Team Jesus wins with a 16 to 14 victory over Team Evens.

Block 2:
Team Evens wins with a whopping 12 to 6 victory over Team Odds.

Arocena Cup Update

So some updates for the Arocena Cup.

In Block 1:
After marking the last two tests and a game of Ultimate frisbee, Team Odds earns a 2 point lead over Team Evens at 16 to 14 and secures the Arocena Cup for block 1.

In Block 2:
Team Evens clinches the victory with an amazing 12 to 6 score.

In Block 3:
Team Odds has a 3 point lead over Team Evens with a score of 10 - 7. There are two more things to do to earn points so Evens may yet pull a victory but it seems very unlikely.

In Block 4:
Both teams are tied at 7 points a piece. The winner of the mousetrap car race on Monday will be the winner of the cup in Block 4.

New Month, New Semester & New Classes!

Welcome to all my new students this semester!

This semester I've got two Math 9 classes, a Science 8 and a Physics 11 class to keep track of. That's four classes which means 8 teams competing for the Arocena Cup this semester. A few of you will have the opportunity to win the cup a second time this semester and join an elite crowd currently only occupied by one student.

So after a long semester of competition, both Team Cool and Team Frick'n Awesome tied for the highest mark on the Term 2 Exam (Mia and Bryanna both scored 84) so the next highest mark was taken to break the tie. This time it was a great effort from Amy and Erica to clinch the victory for Team Frick'n Awesome!

Physics 12 Arocena Cup Champions!!

So after a long semester and some hard fought Jeopardy reviews and physics competitions. The final tally is

Team Obsolutely Omazing (Team O) - 8
The He-man Woman Haters Club (Team E) - 9

It looked liked Team O would take the lead as Kathleen maintained the highest mark on the Term 2 Exam until an 11th hour effort from Frank & Hendrik tied her mark. So the next highest mark was taken which went to Jeremy W! So congrats to Jeremy W and The He-man Woman Haters Club for taking the cup in a nail biting semester.

Also anyone wishing to rewrite any test or exam may do so until Wednesday of next week. Just come and see me.

Arocena Cup Update

Update for the Arocena Cup.

In Block 2: I forgot to tally up the points for highest mark on the tests we've done so Team Cookie Monster gained 3 points and Team Elmo gained 1 to bring the scores to 11 for Team Cookie Monster and 7 for Team Elmo. Looks like Team Cookie Monster has clinched the victory.

In Block 3: The last test had Bryanna scoring the highest but she's already got a point for her team so I looked at the next highest which was a tie between Maria and Erica, neither scored yet so I looked at the next pair which was Rylan and Mya. Since Mya already scored the point went to Rylan and Team Frick'n Awesome takes the lead 13 to 12. But there's still two more points to get so Team Cool may yet win this!

In Block 4: After another heated Jeopardy match, The He-Man Woman Haters club walked away with an resounding 2600 to 0 victory which ties everything up at 8 a piece.

Also, I am still looking to take a team of students to the 31st Annual UBC Physics Olympics. As far as prizes go, participating in this event will look mighty impressive on any university/college applications you submit as well as for any scholarships you may be applying for. It will show your scientific ability as well as your ability to think out of the box.
The deadline to register is February 9th so I need responses preferably before the end of exam week so I can mail everything in on time.

Update on the Arocena Cup, Team Cool takes the lead by getting the highest score on the Ch. 7 Test.
Rylan and Sammy both tied for highest, but the top 3 marks for Team Cool were higher than the top 3 marks for Team Frick'n Awesome.

Luckily for Team Frick'n Awesome, they had the highest average mark for Term 1 so that earns their entire team another point and thus the scores are even once again at 12 a piece.
